Fighting Multiple Opponents
A Brief Introduction
By Master Ron Gatewood
First, you must have many skills and tricks up your sleeve and keep your wits about you so you can fight with a cool and cunning mind.
Suppose there are three people attacking you:
1. Never go to the one in the middle first as the others can move in and then you are surrounded on three sides.
2. Attempt to neutralize one of the outside attackers and it possible attempt to attack on the outside of that target. This accomplishes two things: First, it puts him between you and the others. Second: If you put him down the others have to either step over or come around him to get to you. This gives you time to consider your next action or gives you a chance to flee. If you have hurt him and he is still standing you can push him into the other two.
You may look at or speak to one, acting as if you are going to swing at him. even faking in that direction and then deliver a back kick or somehow strike the unsuspecting attacker.
When others reach you there are many possible tactics but let’s look at one that I have used and found very effective. You may look at or speak to one, acting as if you are going to swing at him, even faking in that direction and then deliver a back kick or somehow strike the unsuspecting attacker. You use your peripheral vision, never looking at the second attacker – which makes the surprise even greater. You are then faced with a one-on-one fight but you still must use all your senses to monitor the positions of the downed opponents.
If possible, when you fake the second man and strike the third, utilize the same flow of movement to take out the second man. The attack would be very quick but efficient. As an example:
A. Strike attacker #1:
B. Fake attacker #2:
C. Strike attacker #3:
D. Strike attacker #2.
Hit hard, fast, and accurate!
When the altercation is over be sure to survey the situation to check if anyone is still able to fight or chase you. If not, quickly leave the area. If the police arrive it will be three stories against yours – and they will probably lie!
