This is a long but interesting read it is almost everything you need to know about the transitions our Art went through since GMW left China. This is a difficult read and many will not make it or understand it but those who do will have a much deeper understanding of their Art, I had this translated from Chinese. This is Jimmy’s school, it has moved to another location. Master Wong Yi Man is the first generation from GMW learning from GMW’s classmate/friend and who he called his cousin, Chan Sai Mo. Master José Antonio Rey García is the second generation since GMW left and he also combined “Shuai Jiao” as did GMW. Tony can fight and is the Top Student from that school. You will see all the arts they study, their knowledge is very deep. I have included two videos so you can see the speed and accuracy Tony maintains.

Master Wong Yi Man’s school is an the example of the valuable legacy of traditional kungfu from Southern China. With more than fifty years of practical experience in Wushu, Master Wong Yi Man, founder of the Nan Pai Kungfu Academy in Tai Shang district in the province of Guang Dong, is one of the most highly recognized masters in Southern Shaolin martial arts.
MASTER WONG YI MAN’S ACADEMY
He started his martial arts studies at age 6 under the guidance of Master Huang Yu Jin (黃遇錦, fourth generation Master, Hong Quan style). With this master he was initiated in the practice of Hong Jia Quan (Hung Gar), before travelling at the age of 14 to the city of Jiang Men to start his studies of Cai Li Fu Quan (Choy Lee Fut), with the renamed Master Chen Shi Wu (陳世武, third generation Cai Li Fu Master). At 18 he started to learn Fo Jia Quan with Master Lei Jin Tao (雷錦桃, second generation Fo Jia Quan Master), who was direct disciple of the famous Lian Tian Zhu. After such intense period of instruction he returned to his home city where he was started in the practice of Yang style Tai Ji Quan, with Master Huang Zhong Qi (黃仲其, third generation master of Tai Ji Quan through the line of transmission of Master Yang Cheng Fu).
In 1976, after winning the first place in the national Chinese competitions representing the Jiang Men delegation, the Chinese Government named him Wushu Rector for the district of Tai Shan, where he developed very significant activity and made great effort in teaching of martial art in Tai Shan Physical Education School. Master Wong Yi Man is the Oficial Vicepresident of the Department of Martial Arts Instructors in the province of Jiang Men, President of Shan Tang Wushu Guan School (山塘武術館), in Tai Shan, province of Guangzhou, high degree referee of the Popular Republic of China and one of the most important masters in Guang Dong province.
Master Wong Yi Man has condensed in his school the legacy of several decades of studies and exercising of the main currents of Southern China styles. That is why his academy is summarized with the generic name of Nan Pai (Southern School) precisely because his intention goes beyond the exclusive study of only one style.
In 1995 Master Wong Yi Man arrives in Havana City with the objective of giving continuity to his knowledge. He officialy introduced in the capital of Cuba the traditional boxing from Southern China and founded an academy with his name. Sponsored by the Cuban Federation of Karate Do and Alike Martial Arts, The Cuban Olympic Committee and Board of Directors of China Town in Havana, he founded Wong Yi Man Gu Ba Nan Pai Gong Fu Zong Guan (Cuban Kungfu Academy of the current of the south of China styles of Master Wong Yi Man, 黄宇文古巴南派功夫總館).
In 1998, after returning to the Asian continent, Master Wong Yi Man founded Nan Pai Kungfu Academy in Taishan district which nowadays has more tan one hundred members. In 2003 he inaugurated Wong Yi Man Nan Pai Kungfu Academy in Boston and New York (USA).
In 2008, Master Wong Yi Man named shifu José Antonio Rey García (Tony), who already was his main instructor and President of his Academy in Cuba, worldwide Vice-president of his Academy, thus providing empowerment to represent him internationally.
With the presence of Shifu Tony in Brazil in 2008, the Baxi Wong Yi Man Nan Pai Kungfu Academy (Brazil Wong Yi Man Academy of Southern Chinese martial arts, 黄宇文巴西南派功夫總館), was founded, with headquarters in Sao Paulo City. The current President of this academy is Shifu Ernesto García Gonzalez, who was the President of Nan Pai Kungfu Academy in Cuba between 1995-1997.
Nan Pai Academy groups the most traditional and genuine kungfu, based on its four main schools: Cai Li Fo Quan (Boxing that combines the techniques of Masters Li Yau San, Chan Yuen Woo and those of Monk Choy Fook, known in the western hemisphere as Choy Lee Fut, 蔡李佛), Hong Jia Quan (Boxing of the Hong Family, also known as Hung Ga, 洪家拳), Fo Jia Quan (Boxing of the Buddhist current, trend developed by famous Master Liang Tian Zhu, 佛家拳), Taiji Quan (Yang School Taiji Boxing, 太極拳), and an additional system developed by Master Wong Yi Man, called Wu Xing Pai (五形派), or school of the five animals. These systems are not only transmitted from their martial standpoint but also from their therapeutic and philosophic aspects.
Master Wong Yi Man has condensed in five styles forty-four years of studies and investigation. He has elaborated his own strategic concepts, absorbing the strong points of more tan 100 sequences of traditional boxing of the south. This has given him a very peculiar way of approaching the theory of Qi circulation and its projection.
That is why he is often heard saying: “One should know the difference between the right path and the wrong path. False theories are very abundant in Kungfu”
It is so that our academy encompasses within its curriculum: studies of the classic routines (Tao Lu, 套路), from each of the styles previously mentioned, the study and understanding, both in theory and practice, of each technical and strategic principle existing in the traditional forms, exercising, and the study of methods for the strenthening and promotion of health such as different methods of martial and terapeutical Qigong for physical strength (各种氣功﹐硬 功). It also includes the learning of Southern Chinese traditional weapons, study and practice of combat forms such as Shuai Jiao (projection techniques, 摔跤), Qin Na (capture techniques, 擒拿), training of the ancient ceremony of the Southern Lion Dance (南派醒獅 地獅圖陳, 高椿), the study of northern and southern traditional Wushu, as well as the internal and external schools (南北武術研究, 內家外家武術研究). The philosophical studies that analize the Taiji theory (theory of the creation of all things, 太極的理論), Yin and Yang (theory of the universal bipolarity, 陰陽的理論), Wu Xing (theory of the five elements, 五行的理論), Ba Gua (theory of the eight trigramas, 八卦的理論), plus emphasizing on the study of the foundations of Chinese traditional medicine and its practical use in traumatology.
Master Wong Yi Man still keeps his transmissions in effect inside and out of China with the goal of expanding the essence of true Kungfu throughout the world.
