Each time I write a new article I think about posts I have written along with others years ago that have much (maybe forgotten info) that go into the subject even deeper. Many of these sites are disappearing, I have decided to search them out to add information to the articles so newer students will better understand what the advanced students have been taught. You must consider myself and others believed the history and some … Read more

Slipping The Punch

Slipping The Punch

OK, I can hear it already, “this is a San Soo site, this is from another Art”. There are somethings that are universal that transcend all Arts maybe with a slight twist. But to me slipping is slipping and this guy has proven to me he is very good at it. I don’t think he is teaching an Art, so far he has stock to superior evasion and general strikes. So to the guys out … Read more

What does San Soo Mean?

What does San Soo Mean?

Not much, really, generally it means fighting. Kung Fu San Soo means Kung Fu for fighting, even when we found Jimmy’s school in China they could not figure out why he used those words for the name of his Art. His first Art was Choy Li Fut which are 3 of the characters on our belts, with (Hung for power/strength, not the Hung Ga family) and Fut to honor Buddha. Why he used Kung Fu … Read more

How Deep Can You Learn?

How Deep Can You Learn?

I am very disappointed when I hear students say Kung Fu San Soo is very limited so I am going to leave it and find other arts so I can compete with anyone. They refuse to understand our art is very complex however they have not entered the the mind portion of San Soo as taught by Grand Master Woo. They say “I learned San Soo from “Goody Two Shoes, you think you are superior … Read more

If you have never boxed than you probably never experienced a guy who can do this but it is very few that can. It really has no specific Art but is attached to the person that has perfected the movement, in boxing they call it, “bob and weave”. The closest technique we have in San Soo is the Nam Pi movement when we look totally relaxed and the guy attacks. You do not block, you … Read more

The 8 Basic Horses

The 8 Basic Horses

The absolute foundation of San Soo yet few practice it and many do not know how and much worse, few care. Many demonstrate how they understand the horses but why don’t we learn from the man himself, we can. I am posting a video from YouTube, they were preparing for the 84 demonstration and met at Bob Estrada’s studio. I will breakdown some important points that you may miss on the video if you were … Read more

Hands of San Soo

Hands of San Soo

This is a subject that will take much more than one article to cover since it is almost our main weapon in our fight arsenal, right after the mind. I prefer to use mind rather than brain which is basically a piece of meat (an organ) the mind is what is inside, what you think with. If I ask you to show me a fist and how to use it you would think, “what a … Read more

Element of surprise #3

Element of surprise #3

We have covered a few ideas, we could write a whole book on this subject but it is all up to you to develop what works for you, as Jimmy would say, “how good you are is how smart you are”. The idea is that you do not know how good your opponent is, he may be better than you so to square off for your “fair fight”, you could lose. Not only the fight … Read more

The Element of Surprise #2

The Element of Surprise #2

Things are not as simple as they seem and since people are lazy they learn things the easy way and go no further. If you ask them what it that means, “Attack him when he is not ready”, then ask how you do that, listen carefully and you may hear the word,”Duh”. There are many ways, some you may like and some that may not be for you. First let’s look at how the mind … Read more

The Element of Surprise

The Element of Surprise

How a street fight usually happens, some how 2 people don’t like each other or someone offends the other guy or someone just wants to fight. Usually there are angry words, “you are a punk”. “kiss my butt”, your mother is a whore, you get the message. Next comes a physical posturing dance and he starts moving toward you and his girl or a friend keep pulling him back. OK, now we get down to … Read more

Why did you decide to study Martial Arts? (did you pick the right art?)

Why did you decide to study Martial Arts? (did you pick the right art?)

Each of us had our reasons, some were bullied, some needed confidence, some wanted to have no fear, there is more. Oh yes and some wanted to compete and prove they are the best, some did and others met reality and quit. Even if you become the best it is for a short time but they will still have the general skills to be able to protect themselves if they have to. I see people … Read more
