The older I get, I hate to listen to dumb people!

The older I get, I hate to listen to dumb people!

I would like to share some information that is being shoved off that is pure BS. That is about the choke hold which is really a carotid artery restraint. Choke=cut off air, restraint=blood and if done right is very humane and allows a very short time to put on cuffs. A choke hold is easy to see or hear if used on someone they cough/choke and have difficulty breathing. It is ugly, drool is all … Read more

Blast from the past!

Blast from the past!

This is a video taken in Robert Resann’s studio when I brought in old films to show his students how things were when I learned. I have always believed that all those who will carry on San Soo need to know real facts, real stories, real technique, real psychology, that was passed on to us and facts that we learned on the way. All students should evaluate if they are being taught the real ideas … Read more

Handgun Disarming

Handgun Disarming

“How Guns Work”   There are critical issues to be aware of when it becomes necessary to disarm a gun-wielding assailant when you deem it necessary to do so.  A thorough understanding of the workings of those weapons is necessary so you can make that life or death decision.   The two main categories of hand guns are the Revolver and the Semi-Automatic Pistol.   The Revolver has a large cylinder in the middle of … Read more

High Level stuff!

High Level stuff!

Just because we find wisdom outside of San Soo does not mean we can not learn from it, this is not about tactics but about how our body works and how we can use it to get the best results. This man is a genius at body mechanics, I have learned much from him. His teaching is not for dummies, so you have to decide if you want to watch it. heh heh Watch the … Read more

Wrist Leverage Breakdown

Wrist Leverage Breakdown

I was looking for a subject and came across Bill Vigil performing one of my favorite wrist locks which I have used many times while taking someone into custody, it never let me down. Bill does it perfectly so I will borrow it rather the redo it. His explanation is sound, I will add a personal preference of how the pain is created. The cross wrist grab is neutralized when you place your hand over … Read more

Strength verses sensing action

Strength verses sensing action

If you asked which is more important I would say both however if I had to choose one it would be sensing with feel. Remember when we first heard about Martial Arts we were told it is about turning the other guys strength and energy back using it on him. How many of you really practice that, I usually see puffed up cocky chests out on the floor. I am not sure why but many … Read more

Slipping The Punch

Slipping The Punch

OK, I can hear it already, “this is a San Soo site, this is from another Art”. There are somethings that are universal that transcend all Arts maybe with a slight twist. But to me slipping is slipping and this guy has proven to me he is very good at it. I don’t think he is teaching an Art, so far he has stock to superior evasion and general strikes. So to the guys out … Read more

Become Untouchable

Become Untouchable

If you have never boxed than you probably never experienced a guy who can do this but it is very few that can. It really has no specific Art but is attached to the person that has perfected the movement, in boxing they call it, “bob and weave”. The closest technique we have in San Soo is the Nam Pi movement when we look totally relaxed and the guy attacks. You do not block, you … Read more

The 8 Basic Horses

The absolute foundation of San Soo yet few practice it and many do not know how and much worse, few care. I am posting a video from YouTube, they were preparing for the 84 demonstration and met at Bob Estrada’s studio. I will breakdown some important points that you may miss on the video if you were … Read more

Element of surprise #3

Element of surprise #3

We have covered a few ideas, we could write a whole book on this subject but it is all up to you to develop what works for you, as Jimmy would say, “how good you are is how smart you are”. The idea is that you do not know how good your opponent is, he may be better than you so to square off for your “fair fight”, you could lose. Not only the fight … Read more
