High Level stuff!

High Level stuff!

Just because we find wisdom outside of San Soo does not mean we can not learn from it, this is not about tactics but about how our body works and how we can use it to get the best results. This man is a genius at body mechanics, I have learned much from him. His teaching is not for dummies, so you have to decide if you want to watch it. heh heh Watch the … Read more

Grand Master Woo’s teaching methods, the early years!

Grand Master Woo’s teaching methods, the early years!

There is much misunderstanding of what and why Jimmy taught in the early years, I will attempt to lay out the progression of what I know, saw and heard so future students will also know. Both on his building and his business cards he used the words “Karate Kung Fu” but he did not teach Karate, he had a plan and a purpose. Very few Americans had ever heard the words “Kung Fu” and had … Read more

Bill Lasiter – The Legend Passes On

Bill Lasiter – The Legend Passes On

We will miss Bill Lasiter he was a legend amongst the San Soo community, he was respected, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, it was hard to ever get angry about anything he did, just go ask him and he would explain. He was Jimmy’s spokes person, always holding the microphone at Jimmy’s demonstrations and explaining things or introducing the next event. He was fast, moved with intent and a pleasure to watch in action. I am sure … Read more

The truth may hurt!!!

The truth may hurt!!!

It is time to address the made up 45 techniques that advanced Masters are passing off as the real 45 lessons that Jimmy Woo gave his first students. They have been my friends but Grand Master Woo is far more important to me and will show you what he wanted us to learn. More important it should be a lesson to you as to where and who you ask to get the information on this … Read more

How do you create a link to the all knowing Subconscious?

How do you create a link to the all knowing Subconscious?

Before you say this is magic voodoo, it is very scientific and spans to many areas of life. It functions on it’s own and programmed into your mind from past experiences. It is an alarm that wants to warn of danger and sometimes acts on its own to protect you. I can guarantee it has saved you from injury, maybe even death when it acts. If I walk into your house and throw a ball … Read more

Wrist Leverage Breakdown

Wrist Leverage Breakdown

I was looking for a subject and came across Bill Vigil performing one of my favorite wrist locks which I have used many times while taking someone into custody, it never let me down. Bill does it perfectly so I will borrow it rather the redo it. His explanation is sound, I will add a personal preference of how the pain is created. The cross wrist grab is neutralized when you place your hand over … Read more

Finding Our Roots

Finding Our Roots

While investigating in China, Amar located the existing Choy Li Fut school which was Jimmy H Woo’s School. It has relocated since the original Monastery was destroyed and burned. We were able to find Jimmy’s Cousin, Chan Sai Mo who was was the Son of Chan Siu Hung who was the man who trained Jimmy H Woo, he was then in his late 90s but has since passed away. Strength verses sensing action

Strength verses sensing action

If you asked which is more important I would say both however if I had to choose one it would be sensing with feel. Remember when we first heard about Martial Arts we were told it is about turning the other guys strength and energy back using it on him. How many of you really practice that, I usually see puffed up cocky chests out on the floor. I am not sure why but many … Read more

Should you have a fight plan?

Should you have a fight plan?

I would say no, the only time you would have any pre-fight plan is judging the threat, how many folks you have to fight or how to set them up. Jimmy would say, “let your mind use your body” which few understood at first but the more you fought the better you understood, it is very scientific. To understand how the brain works, we can break it down to “brain dominance” which directs your whole … Read more

Size Matters

Size Matters

Each time I write a new article I think about posts I have written along with others years ago that have much (maybe forgotten info) that go into the subject even deeper. Many of these sites are disappearing, I have decided to search them out to add information to the articles so newer students will better understand what the advanced students have been taught. You must consider myself and others believed the history and some … Read more

Slipping The Punch

Slipping The Punch

OK, I can hear it already, “this is a San Soo site, this is from another Art”. There are somethings that are universal that transcend all Arts maybe with a slight twist. But to me slipping is slipping and this guy has proven to me he is very good at it. I don’t think he is teaching an Art, so far he has stock to superior evasion and general strikes. So to the guys out … Read more

What does San Soo Mean?

What does San Soo Mean?

Not much, really, generally it means fighting. Kung Fu San Soo means Kung Fu for fighting, even when we found Jimmy’s school in China they could not figure out why he used those words for the name of his Art. His first Art was Choy Li Fut which are 3 of the characters on our belts, with (Hung for power/strength, not the Hung Ga family) and Fut to honor Buddha. Why he used Kung Fu … Read more
