Things I missed back then! What a second San Soo education I am getting as I work on the current video discs using knowledge of body language and statement analysis to better understand. Back then I only understood slightly however it is much different now. As we get into these, I will try to pass on what I see. Many of the subtleties he attempts to pass on goes over many heads, he tries many … Read more
The older I get, I hate to listen to dumb people!
I would like to share some information that is being shoved off that is pure BS. That is about the choke hold which is really a carotid artery restraint. Choke=cut off air, restraint=blood and if done right is very humane and allows a very short time to put on cuffs. A choke hold is easy to see or hear if used on someone they cough/choke and have difficulty breathing. It is ugly, drool is all … Read more
Blast from the past!
This is a video taken in Robert Resann’s studio when I brought in old films to show his students how things were when I learned. I have always believed that all those who will carry on San Soo need to know real facts, real stories, real technique, real psychology, that was passed on to us and facts that we learned on the way. All students should evaluate if they are being taught the real ideas … Read more
Will Martial Arts schools survive the current threat?
My view is a few may but most will not without drastic changes and I am not sure what those may be. If this virus lasts the rest this year and into the next all arts are in trouble. If virus carriers are out there, I don’t think students will be interested coming to class and rolling around with another’s sweaty body. Frankly, I am tired of checking/waiting for someone to ask a question or … Read more
What’s The Next Step?
I failed to get out truthful information out that would bring our once great Art back together again, I did my part, you have not done yours, there is not any real forward movement, no questions, no real input, just people with there hands out waiting for free information. Yes, we get “likes” but that is it, no real support. One guy would always gave a like but all of a sudden he switches and … Read more
What We Weren’t Supposed To Know
This is a long but interesting read it is almost everything you need to know about the transitions our Art went through since GMW left China. This is a difficult read and many will not make it or understand it but those who do will have a much deeper understanding of their Art, I had this translated from Chinese. This is Jimmy’s school, it has moved to another location. Master Wong Yi Man is the … Read more
August 1965 Black Belt Magazine with Jimmy H. Woo
Here’s a link to the August 1965 Black Belt Magazine that has Grand Master Woo listed in the Instructor’s Page. Some of the facts were embellished and later found to not be true. Since we are all staying home you might enjoy looking at martial arts from our view back in 1965. Things have really changed! https://books.google.com/books?id=5dkDAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA29&dq=august%20blackbelt%2C%201965%2C%20instructors%20profile&pg=PA29#v=onepage&q&f=true
Gerald Okamura
The story of the San Soo weapons designed by Gerald Okamura was that he worked as a machinist in aircraft and created his swords on break or lunch, the details I don’t know but they were very nice looking. We discussed making them for San Soo, he was interested but he was busy with his movie career and did not seem to have time to spend making weapons. I waited for some time and I … Read more
Thai Boxers Discussion – Epilogue
Although we have wrapped up the “San Soo vs. Thai Boxers” conversation, I wanted to clarify a few things that may have been taken the wrong way. The purpose of this conversation, and many of the discussions we have on this site, is to clear the air and set the record straight while those of us who were there are still around to do so. In no way is this to be taken as disparaging … Read more

Thai Boxers Part 3
This will be one more long section which will finish the article but I have noticed less of you are reading this article but I think it should be put up to get the complete read. I intended to add the posts in two more sections, where tempers took over and insults started, I hoped you may see the splits that started at that point. I will leave it up to you if you want … Read more
Continuation of the Tai Boxer Article……
Master Garry Moore: “I felt loyal to my art. I realized that when I do fight, I not only represent San Soo, I represent Jimmy H. Woo. People are going to look at me and say ‘yeah, he learned from Jimmy.’ I could not let the art look bad, Jimmy look bad, or let myself look bad either.” Master Jerry Druckerman: “I was so proud to represent San Soo; I was willing to take on … Read more
Muay Thai vs. San Soo
There has been much discussion, lying, and arguing about the supposed fight between the Muay Thai vs. San Soo fighters and what really happened. I plan on posting real information along with what I consider false information and you can make up your own mind. This information comes many sources, some that were to fight, many Senior students who all had strong views (including myself). It will take many posts to get this information out, … Read more
